Embracing his new role as a father, Daniel Radcliffe is cherishing every enchanting moment since the arrival of his first child, a son, with his significant other Erin Darke.
“It’s a spectacular experience. It’s overwhelming and intense, yet it’s beautiful, and Erin has been phenomenal,” said the 33-year-old Harry Potter sensation in a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight. He disclosed for the first time that he and Darke, 38, are parents to a little boy. “It’s indeed a blessing to spend this quality time with him.”
Radcliffe and Darke are thoroughly enjoying their new journey into parenthood. “I had planned to take a break, a luxury not everyone can afford, which enables me to spend a significant amount of time with him, a feeling that’s indeed wonderful,” he shared.
The confirmation of Darke’s pregnancy came exclusively from Us Weekly in March after the duo, who have been romantically involved since 2013, were seen strolling around New York City with Darke’s baby bump noticeable beneath her black zipped sweatshirt.
As the couple eagerly awaited their first child, they maintained a low profile. However, a source exclusively disclosed to Us that Radcliffe and Darke were “ecstatic” about adding a new member to their family. “It’s like a dream becoming reality,” the insider shared back in March.
Subsequently, a month later, a representative for the couple confirmed the birth of their child.
Even though their son — whose name has yet to be disclosed — is still a baby, Radcliffe intends to spend as much time as he can at home, without completely distancing himself from his professional commitments.
“I believe it will indeed [change]. It hasn’t really impacted anything yet, but I truly enjoy my time with him, and I believe I’m going to miss him when I return to work later this year,” the star of Miracle Workers expressed to ET. “Hence, I believe I might be a bit more discerning. I’ve always been selective, but I think I might slightly reduce my work commitments for the next few years.”
Clarifying his point further, Radcliffe mentioned, “I’ll never completely quit. I don’t think that would be beneficial for me either.”
Prior to stepping into fatherhood, Radcliffe had shared his aspirations for starting a family and his apprehensions about his children pursuing a career in acting.
“My dream would be for them to visit a film set and express an interest in becoming a part of the crew, like joining the art department,” he shared with Newsweek in October 2022.
Reflecting on his own early years in Hollywood while shooting for the Harry Potter series, Radcliffe mentioned he wouldn’t wish the fame on his children at a young age. “Film sets can be magical places,” he explained. “Often, they can provide an enriching experience for children. However, it’s the fame aspect that should be evaded at all costs.”
