Arnold Schwarzenegger Questions the Existence of an Afterlife
In a candid conversation with his friend Danny DeVito for Interview magazine, Arnold Schwarzenegger expressed his skepticism regarding the concept of an afterlife. The renowned actor, famous for his roles in films like “FUBAR,” firmly dismissed the notion of heaven as nothing more than a fantasy.
Reflecting on a question posed to him by Howard Stern, Schwarzenegger recalled his response: “Nothing. You’re six feet under. Anyone that tells you something else is a f–king liar.” He acknowledged his lack of expertise on matters concerning the soul and spirituality but emphasized the irrevocable loss of the physical body. “We will never see each other again like that,” he added.
DeVito chimed in, acknowledging the inevitable deterioration of the body over time. Schwarzenegger responded, debunking the idea of a heavenly reunion, stating, “When people talk about, ‘I will see them again in heaven,’ it sounds so good, but the reality is that we won’t see each other again after we’re gone. That’s the sad part. I know people feel comfortable with death, but I don’t.”
The actor passionately expressed his deep attachment to life and the fear of missing out on its countless experiences. “To sit with you here, that will one day be gone?” he lamented. “And to have fun and to go to the gym and to pump up, to ride my bike on the beach, to travel around, to see interesting things all over the world. What the f—?”
DeVito chimed in with a positive outlook, proclaiming, “Life! It’s the best!”
While Schwarzenegger grew up in the Catholic Church and received religious education, he acknowledged his shifting beliefs. In a YouTube video from 2021, he mentioned his Catholic upbringing and the value of a “servant’s heart.” According to him, true public servants should prioritize serving a higher cause rather than pursuing personal power or partisan interests.
