Khloe Kardashian recently discussed her struggle to form a connection with her newborn son, Tatum, three months after his birth via a surrogate, during an episode of Hulu’s The Kardashians. While her siblings Kim, Kourtney, and Kendall were off in different cities, Khloe found herself in Los Angeles with her baby. In the third episode of Season 3, titled “Everything Is My Fault!”, Khloe’s mother, Kris Jenner, paid her a visit.
During their conversation, Khloe expressed feelings of guilt to Kris, admitting that she hadn’t been able to establish a strong bond with Tatum even after three months. She also shared with Kris that she had set new boundaries with Tristan Thompson, her ex and Tatum’s father, making it clear that she wasn’t interested in getting back together with him.
Kris inquired about Khloe’s feelings regarding the surrogacy process after three months, to which Khloe replied, highlighting the difference in her connection between her first child, True, and Tatum. She explained that with True, it took her a couple of days to feel a strong connection, but with Tatum, it has taken months. Khloe affirmed her love for her son and children in general but confessed that she hadn’t yet developed that complete bond with him, despite being aware that it takes time.
Kris empathetically acknowledged Khloe’s emotional journey, pointing out that Khloe had been through a lot of trauma and stress, and it’s understandable that her emotions were focused on dealing with those experiences. Kris encouraged Khloe to give herself credit and be kind to herself.
Khloe agreed but continued to express her guilt, explaining that although she doesn’t treat Tatum differently, she occasionally questions herself. Kris reassured Khloe, highlighting her attentive and nurturing nature, reminding her that she constantly cares for and tends to her children, earning her the title of “mother of the year” in their eyes.
In a confession, Khloe shared her self-critical tendencies, expressing a desire to be as kind to herself as she is to others. She described motherhood as a magical experience, and as Kris asked to hold the baby, Khloe jokingly warned her about the possibility of Tatum throwing up.
Later in the episode, Kris inquired about Khloe’s relationship with Tristan Thompson. Khloe stated that they get along well and have a strong friendship for the sake of their children. She emphasized that she had let go of any grudges and didn’t feel the need to punish him since they were not getting back together. Khloe mentioned setting boundaries and shared an incident where Tristan was present, feeding their five-year-old daughter, True, when Kris visited. She emphasized that while he has certain privileges, such as being with the children when she’s not around, there are still boundaries in place.
In her confession, Khloe emphasized the importance of maintaining boundaries due to their past experiences of reconciling after cheating scandals. She acknowledged that Tristan might believe they could reconcile in the future, and it was her responsibility to show through her actions that it’s not the case. Khloe made it clear to Kris that their interactions revolve around co-parenting and that she doesn’t allow old habits to resurface easily.
Khloe concluded by expressing her determination to build a different and healthier dynamic with Tristan, prioritizing the well-being of their children. Kris expressed her happiness with Khloe’s stance, supporting her decisions.
