Chmerkovskiy shared the joyous occasion with a touching Father’s Day post on Instagram, where he’s seen cradling the newborn. However, he chose to obscure the infant’s face. Fellow Dancing With the Stars colleagues showered the couple with congratulations on their newest arrival, with Sharna Burgess and Emma Slater among those expressing their joy.
Although Murgatroyd hasn’t made a public announcement yet, she has been sharing snippets of her journey towards childbirth on her Instagram Stories, including her time at the hospital and labor experiences.
Their newest addition to the family arrives six years following the birth of their first child, son Shai, in January 2017, the same year the couple tied the knot. They had revealed earlier this year that they were expecting a second child.

Murgatroyd shared the heartwarming news on Instagram, saying, “It brings me immense joy to finally announce that @maksimc and I are expecting our Chmerkovskiy #2.” She also mentioned the couple’s struggles over the past two years, including three miscarriages and a failed embryo transfer, but was overjoyed to share that they were finally expecting a healthy child.
The ballroom dancer extended her heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported them throughout their fertility journey and shared their own experiences, helping her through the IVF cycle. This joyful news, she added, brought their family immense happiness and gratitude.
Interestingly, their son Shai found out he was going to be a big brother on his own, leading to a joyous family moment that Murgatroyd shared with Entertainment Tonight.
After a series of unfortunate events, including fertility struggles, setbacks in their IVF journey, and Chmerkovskiy’s time in Ukraine during the Russian invasion, not to mention the death of Murgatroyd’s father in December 2022, Chmerkovskiy urged his wife to take it easy, especially with her return to Dancing With the Stars’ 31st season.
Chmerkovskiy expressed his mixed feelings to Entertainment Tonight, explaining how they were thrilled about their upcoming child but also cautious due to their previous experiences.
He shared a rather surprising revelation, saying, “IVF didn’t work, she got dancing and forgot about it for a second and four weeks later, we were pregnant. She didn’t even know.”
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Chmerkovskiy talked about the expected second baby. Interestingly, there’s a six-year age gap between his two sons, mirroring the gap between him and his brother Val Chmerkovskiy, also a fellow star on Dancing With the Stars.
