The renowned actor, Robert De Niro, became the adoptive father of Drena, the daughter of Diahnne Abbott, when they tied the knot in 1976.
In a heartbreaking social media post written a few days after his demise, Drena De Niro mournfully remembered the final moments she spent with her son, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez.
“I struggle to put my emotions into words as tears blur my vision, but I feel bound to express gratitude for the outpouring of love, comforting messages, calls, texts, and emails,” Drena penned in an Instagram post. She further appreciated the moral support given by friends and family in the wake of her son’s death.
She added, “The pain in my heart is more profound than I ever thought imaginable. My dear Leo, I love you as fiercely today as I did the first day I cradled you in my arms.”
Leandro, the grandson of Robert De Niro, tragically passed away in New York on Sunday at the tender age of 19.

Expressing his deep sorrow, De Niro shared his statement with Fox News Digital, “I am tremendously affected by the loss of my adored grandson, Leo. We sincerely appreciate the sympathies offered by all. We humbly request for our privacy during this time of mourning.”
Adding to her previous post, Drena said, “The same man who escorted us home from the hospital after your birth drove us to the funeral home where I had to let you go for the final time.”

Remembering Leandro, Drena said, “You personified kindness, acceptance, and love. I cannot fathom that this is reality. Your ability to ease any hardship and lighten every load was unparalleled. Your untimely death is tragic, and I can only surmise that God required a potent angel in His realm.”
She further added, “You are always with me, in my thoughts and memories, until we meet again. My heart will forever be shattered. Your father, your family, and I love you. I love you with every pulse of my grieving heart.”

Drena, 51, officially announced Leandro’s death via Instagram on Monday.
Expressing her grief, she added, “I am at a loss on how to carry on without you, but I will strive to radiate the love and warmth you made me feel as your mother.” She further regretted that love alone could not save him.
According to The Associated Press, NYPD is currently investigating a case involving an 18-year-old male found unconscious and declared dead at the scene by emergency services at an address associated with the Cipriani Club Residences on Wall Street.
The cause of Leandro’s death remains undetermined.
Drena, now an accomplished actress and filmmaker, has worked with her son on various projects, including the film “A Star is Born.” Robert De Niro, 79, recently announced the birth of his seventh child with Tiffany Chen, 45, following their marriage.
