Taylor Swift and Matty Healy have called it quits, bringing an end to their speculated romance that emerged following Taylor’s breakup with Joe Alwyn. Multiple sources report that the couple has broken up, although representatives for Taylor and Matty have not responded to requests for comments.
This recent development marks a significant point in their relationship, almost a decade after they first crossed paths. In December 2014, Matty revealed that he had met Taylor when she attended one of his concerts in Hollywood. In an interview with Shazam Top 20 radio, he mentioned, “I met Taylor Swift, that was really nice,” and added, “We exchanged numbers.”
By January 2015, the “Chocolate” singer confirmed that he and Taylor had been in touch several times since their initial encounter. However, he emphasized that their connection was purely musical, much like many others in the industry, dispelling any dating rumors circulating on social media at the time.
He explicitly stated, “It’s all bloody fake. There’s no relationship or anything happening,” during an interview with Australia’s 2DayFM.
Despite Matty’s denial, speculation about their romance persisted, leading him to address the claims once again in March 2016. While he praised Taylor as “one of the most gracious, hardworking, creatively gifted, and beautiful women” he had met, he maintained that their interactions were strictly platonic.
In a now-deleted tweet, he clarified, “I didn’t even date Taylor, but the media’s incessant and brutal obsession with her has meant that even a guy who DIDN’T DATE HER has been so battered by their never-ending questions that he’s inevitably said something that can be lifted and molded into something that resembles ‘shade.’ It’s really sad.”
Following that period, Matty had been linked romantically to Gabriella Brooks, Halsey, and FKA twigs. Meanwhile, Taylor had relationships with Calvin Harris, Tom Hiddleston, and Joe, with whom she had a six-year partnership before parting ways.
However, in recent months, it appeared that Taylor and Matty had reconnected based on their shared passion for music. In November 2022, Matty disclosed that his band had collaborated with Taylor on a track for her album Midnights, although the version was never released.
During an appearance at Audacy’s DTS Sound Space, he expressed, “It was for reasons that are not to be criticized. She’s amazing.”
Demonstrating their amicable relationship, Taylor was invited to perform her song “Anti-Hero” as well as an acoustic rendition of The 1975’s “The City” at the band’s London concert in January. While on stage, Matty, known for kissing fans, jokingly refrained from doing so that night, stating, “Not in front of Taylor Swift… Not when the queen is here,” as captured in a video taken by an audience member.
