Amber Heard, renowned for her role in Aquaman, has reemerged into the public eye a little over a year after her high-profile defamation trial with former husband Johnny Depp. Here are some snapshots from her recent appearance on the red carpet.
The 37-year-old actress has gracefully made her way back into the limelight with an alluring charm. Attending the global debut of her new film, In the Fire, at Italy’s Taormina Film Festival on June 23, this marked her first public event since the conclusion of her and Depp’s defamation case.
Donned in an elegant black maxi dress with a flowing cape, paired with matching platform heels, Heard exuded confidence as she posed for pictures on the teal carpet, both solo and alongside her co-stars like Luca Calvani, Eduardo Noriega, and Yari Gugliucci. The event was also attended by their director Conor Allyn, and actor William “Billy” Baldwin, who was promoting his animated comedy film, Billie’s Magic World, which features his brother, Alec Baldwin.
Heard seemed to enjoy her time as she gleefully engaged with her fans, taking selfies and signing autographs.
In the Fire presents Heard in the role of a doctor who ventures to an isolated plantation in the 1890s to treat a boy with inexplicable abilities, believed to be possessed by a demon by the local clergy.
The film, which is yet to announce a release date, is Heard’s most recent acting engagement, shot in Italy in early 2022, just a few months before the commencement of her and Depp’s defamation trial. She will also be seen reprising her role as Mera in the upcoming Aquaman sequel, filmed in 2021, with a slated release date of December 20.
Following the conclusion of the trial on June 1, 2022, Heard largely maintained a low profile. However, in May, the actress started being seen in public in Madrid. Speaking in Spanish, she frequently expressed her fondness for living in Spain to the local paparazzi.
The legal proceedings ended favorably for Depp, who made his own comeback to the red carpet this May at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of the film Jeanne du Barry.
Depp had filed a lawsuit against Heard for $50 million. The jury ruled that the actress was responsible for defaming the actor with a 2018 op-ed in the Washington Post, in which she declared herself a representative figure for domestic abuse. While Depp was not explicitly mentioned, Heard had previously accused him of domestic violence in a 2016 restraining order, allegations which he consistently denied.
Post the jury’s decision, Depp was awarded more than $10 million in damages from Heard. The actress, labeling the decision a “setback” for women, did however clinch a minor win with her $100 million countersuit against Depp. The jury instructed Depp to pay her $2 million as his attorney had claimed that she had instigated a “hoax.”
Both parties appealed against their verdicts but later agreed to drop their appeals and reached a settlement last December. As part of the settlement, Heard consented to pay Depp $1 million. A close associate of the Pirates of the Caribbean star disclosed to E! News that Depp intends to donate the money to five different charities.
