The celebrity and Poosh founder, Kourtney Kardashian, has long nurtured the dream of welcoming another addition to her family.
Kourtney, a mother to Mason, 13, Penelope, 10, and Reign, 8, with her ex-partner Scott Disick, declared on June 16 that she is expecting her fourth child—her first with her current husband, Travis Barker.
Before she and Travis became romantically involved, Kourtney had expressed her desire to have another child. In a 2020 interaction with a fan, she encouraged the person to “send blessings” in the hope of having another baby.
After Kourtney, 44, and Travis, 47, transitioned from being friendly neighbors to romantic partners, it became evident that he was the ideal person to share life’s simple joys and significant milestones with. Travis, the drummer of Blink-182, was already a father to Landon Barker, 19, and Alabama Barker, 17, from his previous marriage to Shanna Moakler. He was also a stepfather to Atiana De La Hoya, 24.
Following their engagement in October 2021, the couple soon expressed their intention to expand their family, as reported by a source to E! News. The couple embarked on the journey of in vitro fertilization (IVF), which eventually proved to be mentally and physically taxing for Kourtney, causing them to halt the process in early 2022.
Kourtney admitted in a 2022 interview, “It was overwhelming.” She then decided to take a break to focus on their upcoming wedding.
However, the couple never lost hope of adding to their blended family. Between their Las Vegas wedding in April 2022 and the official ceremony in Italy in May, Kourtney mulled over the number of children she wished to have with Travis.
“In an ideal world, I’d like two more,” she shared with Access Hollywood. “And we both already have three—so that makes six, seven, or eight in total.”
But the IVF process turned out to be unsuitable for them. The Lemme founder had previously frozen seven of her eggs. Unfortunately, they “didn’t survive the thawing process” and none reached the embryo stage, she shared in a May 2023 episode of The Kardashians.
Having put an end to the IVF process, the couple decided to track her ovulation cycle and attempt conception naturally.
“We’d be thrilled to have another baby, but I firmly believe in God’s plans for us,” Kourtney shared. “If that includes a baby, then it will happen when it’s meant to.”
The couple made their pregnancy announcement just a month after that disclosure. Kourtney revealed her pregnancy in a unique way: by holding up a sign that read, “Travis I’m Pregnant” at a Blink-182 concert, thus reenacting an iconic moment from one of their music videos.
